Key Worker

Early Childhood Key Worker Model

The NDIS Key Worker Model is a family-centered approach to early childhood intervention that provides support to children with disabilities or developmental delays. This model supports children 0-7 years of age.

The model is designed to strengthen partnerships between children, families, and early childhood intervention professionals. A Key Worker is an early childhood intervention professional who acts as the primary point of contact for young children living with developmental delay, disability, and autism, and their families. The Key Worker collaborates with a team of specialists but takes the lead role in providing therapeutic interventions that support your child to achieve their goals. The Key Worker model focuses on supporting both the child and the family in their everyday natural environments.

A Key Worker is an early childhood intervention professional who can be from one of the following disciplines: Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist, Special Educator, Family Support Worker or Behaviour Specialist.

The Key Worker’s role is to support and educate the family so that they can provide every opportunity for the child to practice their skills and participate in the therapy plan and work toward achieving the goals.

The Key Worker model is a best practice early childhood intervention model identified by the NDIS to support families.

The Key Worker model focuses on supporting both the child and the family in their everyday natural environments.
